Quote of the Week - April 27th

Possible idea for speeding up the creative process?

Another little gem found on Pinterest. As we approach the end of April, I find my self surprised yet again how time flies.  I have so much I need to achieve in the next couple of weeks.  I have booked an information/introduction to CTMH Stall on Sunday, May 17th at That Great Market - East Lindfield.  I am  in the process of confirming a suitable venue to hold the first in a series of Make & Take Sessions followed by commencement of Card Making Classes and the Scrap booking Classes commencing June/July.

I have made another Card Kit, this time featuring the gorgeous Seaside Paper, Will be posting those later today or tomorrow.  I have completed two double page spread scrapbook layouts using the new Jackson Paper & Complements. and two more DPS layouts featuring Brushed Paper & Complements...again photos soon. I have made several boxes, for card sets, and working on card sets. The list goes on and on. So....make sure you check in regularly there will be lots to see.

Quote of the Week

Yes non Sydney folks.....it has been raining and raining and raining all week!!  We were very fortunate in this house - high and dry with annoying little Internet black outs ad my car sprung a leak and I have about for inches of water on the floor (passengers side) oh yes and a flat tyre.

Being stuck indoors for three days did have some positive outcomes.  I have designed and made not one but two new card kits. Just getting remainder of photography done but posting a quick peeks or two.

Tips & Techniques Tuesday

Embossing Folder Fun- with your CTMH Ink Pads

Yes I know I promised I would make up my own tip for this week....would you believe my photographer (DH) is away for a couple of days?  Anyway below is a tutorial called the Beleek Technique written by the very talented Kittie Caracciolo...with my take below Kittie's

Kittie used Distress Ink in her example as did I in my example below.  Distress ink as the name suggests does not give a completely smooth and even finish (see close up of my card.)

To even out the finish, I added an extra first step -  I used Versamark ink on the embossing folder using the brayer, then using the brayer again with the distress ink.  Below is a tutorial I found on Pinterest by CTMH Independent Consultant Karen Pedersen using CTMH Ink Pads and I have to say it looks good. Results will vary depending on the actual embossing folder but the CTMH ink definately makes a difference.

HOWEVER, and this is important - rubbing your ink pad over a plastic embossing folder is NOT a good idea!  I tried it JUST once (below) and there are "stringy pieces" of ink pad lifting off and, it totally EATS your Versamark pad (found out the hard way in a card class I taught a couple of years ago. As the coverage was patchy in my experiment, I definately would not try without a brayer and using the Versamark first saves a whole lot of heartache. Don't forget to clean the coloured ink off before re applying the Versamark. If you are making up kits or using in class you should get 2 to 3 passes before repeating the process.

Therefore in my humble opinion...it makes sense to use a brayer (also a useful tool to have).
Please let me know if there are any tips or techqniques you would like to see.
Cheers til next Tuesday,
Marg

FOOTNOTE: It has been suggested to me that lightly touching ink pad to the embossing folder also works, personally I would rather preserve my ink pads and use a brayer.

APRIL 2015 SOTM - Typed Note

What is the CTMH Stamp of the Month program?

Each month Close To My Heart offers a special stamp set available that month only. You can purchase the Stamp of the Month at full retail price or at a discount with a qualifying purchase*.

*When you spend $75.00 you can purchase the Stamp of the Month set for $5 (but only during the month of April)

This stamp is so much fun there are so many possibilities with a fantastic range of sentiments.
I used paper from the CTMH Paper Fundamentals - Basics Collection.

I would love to keep playing, but work to do.  You can be sure you"ll see the sentiments from this set appear regularly in my card designs...so useful, and a great size too.

Bye for now.

Are you "Blossomed" out yet?

or...... where has my brain gone?

I have been so busy playing and creating with the latest arrival of CTMH products, I totally forgot to post the other individual photos of the remaining three cards in the Blossom - Four Card Kit posted on March 25.

"Do what makes you Happy" I love this sentiment graphic stamped in CTMH Lagoon Ink.
The flower stamp is from the CTHM stamp set "Wavy Blossoms" D1651 and coloured with
CTMH Water Colour Pencils, which I have to say are the best quality water coloured pencils that I have EVER used.

.
"Birthday Wishes" The CTMH stamp set - "A Budding Friendship" D1602 is the focus for this
card.  I love how bold they are. Again I have used the CTMH water colour pencils. They match the paper colours beautifully.

"Thinking of You" - CTMH Daisy White, Lagoon and Juniper Exclusive Cardstock used with  Blossom Paper.

Hard to believe it is March 31st already.
Cheers Marg
